Hirst Arts diving into hexes

We need your voice now!  Bruce Hirst from Hirst Arts Fantasy Architecture is asking if anyone would actually use 1″ hexes as most board games that are coming out are using 1.5 inch to 2 inch hexes.  I’ve been asking for years for him to delve into 1″ hexes as I stopped purchasing his moulds (I have a lot of them) when I got seriously into GURPS and was put off by the lack of hexes.  I think I’ve proven that hex dungeons work and I’ve done some work on overland and buildings with hex bases as well.

So if you are interested in creating your own hex based terrain get over to the forums and let your voice be heard!  When Bruce was first experimenting with the “Hex Hills” he started out with 1″ but soon abandoned the idea.

Dungeons on Automatic

Dungeons on Automatic is a new blog written by Kyle Norton.  He has recoded a random dungeon generator for GURPS Dungeon Fantasy. Find that post HERE.  It uses the same generator as Donjon but he has changed the code for GURPS instead of D&D.  You can download it and use it offline and it is really a lot of fun to play with!

7 inch Cave Battle Tiles

I’m currently working on the caves and I’m not satisfied with how they currently look.

The problem is where the floor meets the walls.  Bevel won’t work because it is lighted.  So one Bevel will be darker than the other and then they cave walls won’t match when you rotate them.  Because it is six sides I can’t really do multiple walls and change the lighting dynamics.  Not only does that require an extreme amount of work (like crazy amount) it still will be a problem with some of the cavern options.

This is kind of what it is gong to look like.  Mind you I’ve added no detailing to the cave floor.  My focus is on the wall effects.  I want to offer the same background texture as the dungeon Battle Tiles that way they will match seamlessly.  I will make transition tiles as well.

As for professionally getting these printed I think I’m going to make them into A1 or A0 posters and hand cut and mount them myself.

I just finished transferring my latest batch of 7 inch Battle Tiles to pdf.  You can get them HERE

I’m far from done with these.  I noticed some of the form fillable content didn’t work so I need to go back and fix those and three tiles are off so I’m fixing those as well.  I’ve come up with a few more tile designs that I hope to get started on soon.

Dungeon Fantasy Companion Print on Demand

On the Dungeon Fantasy Kickstarter you had to go from either the $50 or $70 pledge to the $250 “I want it all” pledge to get the Dungeon Fantasy Companion in print. Frankly the $250 pledge wasn’t worth it for me as I already have the Cardboard Heroes in pdf, and all the Dungeon Fantasy in pdf. Great deal for those just getting into the DF line but not thought out at all for those of us who have already been playing the genre since it came out in 2008.

However the other day Update #91 on the kickstarter released the news that the Dungeon Fantasy Companion, How to Be a GURPS GM, and GURPS Mass Combat were available for Amazon’s new Print on Demand service. So I went to Amazon and place the order and by the next morning it arrived!

Perfect bound, colour cover, black and white pages just like the pdf. If this is what it will take to get GURPS books then I approve. I would have preferred full colour pages like the rest of the Dungeon Fantasy RPG books but this is better than printing the pdf off on my cheap printer and using my comb binder.

Dungeon Fantasy RPG Powered by GURPS

After a years wait I finally received my Dungeon Fantasy RPG Powered by GURPS today! To say the least I’m very excited to be giving this a go! I’m home with a flu bug so I will have plenty of time to go through all the books.  I’m very impressed with the GM Screen and very glad I shelled out the extra money for it.

I’m wishing now I would have had the money to stretch to the Dungeon Fantasy Companion: A single printed volume containing the content of all the stretch goal PDFs unlocked at the end of the campaign. I have the pdf’s of Dungeon 2, Magic Items, and Traps, so I’m not missing out on the material. I might get them printed via Lulu later.

Well I’m looking forward to playing but I’m going to have to find a new group as everyone from my old group has moved out of the country.  I hope it wasn’t something I said.

RPG Hexagon Battlegrid by PWORK Wargames

Sometimes living in the UK makes it difficult to get RPG items compared to when I lived in the States.  One of those items is a Hex Grid Mat to use for GURPS.  The Chessex ones can cost up to £50.00 or more after shipping.  I’ve seen some others for £35.00 so I was getting frustrated at the lack of Battlemaps for GURPS.  There are many square mats out there for D&D and other games but they lack the functionality of the hex which I have always found better for tactical games.

I noticed that PWORK had a square mat for 21,00 € and I have purchased their products in the past so I contacted them and asked if they would design a hex grid mat that had the dimensions of 1in (25.4mm)  from flat to flat, and 1.15 in (29.33) from corner to corner per hex. They were more than happy to oblige for a small design fee and for less than £35.00 I now have the Hexagon Battlegrid currently speeding its way to me!

I will have it in my hands before the Dungeon Fantasy Box Set arrives which I’ve been told has been shipped to the European distributors.

 

Gurps Campaign Manager ver. 2.2

You can now save your progress as a pdf! In all previous versions there was no option to save your progress unless you had some kind of pdf printer software to print as pdf. However as long as you have the latest Adobe Acrobat Reader DC (the only thing I’ve tested it with) you can now save the progress and come back to it later.

Spell Cards!

After finally getting the Maneuver Cards done after about five years of working on them off and on I decided to get moving to the Spell Cards. Like the other cards they are a form that you can fill and print yourself.  However since there are so many varieties of spells and what they are capable of doing I only made the Page field permanent.  The rest of the cells can be entered by the user.  The information panel looks just like the other cards but for the cover I opted for a spell book cover with each College having the same colour represented in GURPS Magic. I also added a symbol for each college.

The symbols are from Game-icons.net  I’ve made a card for each college and one set of “Generic” Spell cards.  Next up will be Psi cards, Path/Book, Ritual, Syntactic, Symbol, and Wild Magic. All but the Psi cards will probably have to have a different format for the information so they may take a little longer.You can view all the Spell Cards HERE

Manoeuvre Cards for GURPS

I’ve finally finished the bulk of the cards needed for use during GURPS combat. This has been an on again/off again project since 2012. The idea comes from the GURPS Combat cards that you can download for free from Warehouse 23.  It is a great idea and very useful but I didn’t like the basic design of the cards or the limited amount of information.  So I came up with my own version which you can enter your own text then print out for use during game play.

These are great for beginner or pro and if you use miniatures or counters with a hex map it turns the combat into a tactical table top war game.  I’ve considered making a play mat to place the cards on, much like you see with Collectable Card Games (CCG).

As you can see from the photos above the cards are printed individually on 6×4 blank note cards.  Each pdf has three different variants of the card and are a form which you fill out yourself.  Once you have entered the information that you desire to have just print it out on the note card, score (crease) down the centre, glue & fold, press with a heavy object so it dries flat, then just cut the remaining card edge.  I recommend a hobby knife rather than a scissors.

Two other pdf forms are in the folder, both are used for NPC’s and Monsters.  One is playing card size like the Maneuver Cards but you print it on an A4/U.S. Letter size sheet of card stock.  The other is also a 6×4 note card size which you can fill out  and store in a standard recipe box. There is a small area where you can upload a picture unto the card as well.
